Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
We finally made it out to our cabin, after waiting for enough snow to fall, and cold enough temperatures to freeze the river over to make a decent trail for the snow machines to travel on. The guys headed in a day early to warm the cabin up, which was very nice, since the temperature was hovering around 12*. The picture of the tree is by the Matanuska River, and the Matanuska Glacier can be seen in the background. Our friend Jim has quite a display of Christmas lights at his place, and he has placed 500 feet of extension cord out to this tree on the river bank..........quite a sight to see!
We enjoyed a bonfire and fireworks New Year's Eve, then spent New Year's Day ice fishing and relaxing by the wood stove in the warm cabin. The ice fishing was a bit chilly......that's an understatement..... but about 5 nice rainbow trout were caught...none by me! Most were catch and release, which was quite an adventure with a six inch hole in the ice. Craig ended up keeping two to take back to Colorado to prepare a feast for his friends.
When we were leaving the cabin, the sky was so beautiful. I got this shot as we headed down the trail. I would say the new year is off to a great start!
