This and That

It's been pretty busy around these parts lately. I returned from Colorado in time to make a baby quilt, and co host a baby shower before our newest grand baby was born.  We welcomed baby Blake into the world on June 6.  We've had so much fun getting to know him, and big sister is especially proud!

I was hoping to get this quilt finished before I left Colorado, but that didn't happen.  I was able to finish it up and get it sent by the deadline, to be included in the AQuA exhibit "Main Street ~ Grand Junction", which will be on display at the Grand Junction City Hall beginning in July.  I wish I could hop on down to see the show. There are 29 art quilts on display, so if you're in the area, be sure to stop by and check it out!  I took the photo below while walking around Main Street, which became the inspiration for my piece.

The weather has been beautiful here in Alaska.  Unusually warm and sunny weather has lured us out into the great outdoors.

My husband and I took advantage of an especially beautiful day to take a flight over Eagle River Valley, Portage, Whittier and part of  Prince William Sound.  It was a spectacular flight, with awe inspiring scenery. My camera battery was dead, so I had to rely on my phone camera for photos.  Bad planning on my part!

Most of the lakes were still frozen, but the melting around the edges made for a visual feast.

The colors created a very dramatic scene, and the glaciers and ice fields were a sight to behold!

Ice, snow and the beautiful colors of the coastline made for an amazing day!

Back in the studio.......I finally finished up the cabin quilts I started a couple of years ago.  They would still be sitting on a shelf had I not decided to hire my friend to quilt them with her long arm quilting machine.  I typically like to work on the entire quilt myself, but I really wanted to get these on the cabin beds this summer.  My friend Laurie Marks did a wonderful job, and  I've just finished attaching the binding, so they are ready to go to their new home. I am very glad to have these finished!

So, I'll be searching for more inspiration as I enjoy this beautiful weather!
